Wii Fit Challenge~: A slow but steady decline

BMI: 29.41
Calories burned: 384
Exercise time: 1:02

So my BMI went up and I was all >:( at it because it just seemed stupid. It asked why and I said I had no idea, and it chewed me out not to eat red meat, and I was all, "Fuck you, I had chicken and fish today."

Yeah, I had a couple of small pieces of chocolate. I had a camera shoved up my nose twice today and it hurt so bad I was in tears, I fucked deserved a couple squares of chocolate.

But I looked at my weight chart today, and was kind of surprised to see that while there had been massive ups and downs at the beginning, for the last two weeks it's been a slow, but steady downward decline--the few spikes upwards were pretty small. I've lost about two pounds, but I'm pretty sure I've put on some muscle as well. My clothes are definitely a bit loser, so yay.

I saw my Chinese teacher for the first time in about two months, and she went, "...Did you lose weight? Your face looks thinner!" So I'm gonna take that as a good sign.

But since I was pissed off at my BMI going up, and I did have a bit of time to spare, I ended up doing a more fat-burning intensive exercise. I did the running one twice and the step dance three times (not in a row; I'm not a masochist), alternating them and throwing in some yoga and simple muscle-building exercises as cool downs. I also did the boxing game and one of the hula-hoop games. The boxing one is not worth the frustration--it doesn't register some of my punches sometimes--for only 20-odd calories burned, not when the happy fun step dance burns the same amount and leaves me grinning instead of cussing. XD I like the running one more--it's adorable how the bottom of the screen has a measure of the course and where you are on it, and you can see your progress by the cheerful bouncing head of your Mii grinning with music notes coming out of it. Adooooooooorable~. XD

I also did this exercise called "get up" where you're standing with the Wii remote held straight up, and you have to lie down and stand back up keeping the wiimote straight.

I was a dismal failure....or so I thought, but it gave me two stars. Mind, I was on the line--50 points, but still. But the killer is, one side was 39 points, the other was...11. And it was like. "...dude, you need to fix that. Your upper left side is weak." Something I didn't realize until I saw the little graph it made.

Wii Fit finds your weak points--it finds the weak points you didn't even know you had, or ones you sort of knew about but didn't realize how bad they were and just puts it right in your face. And it's a good thing--it means you know what to work on. My center of balance is getting better, and I'm not having as many knee problems on stairs. Mind, the game today told me I sucked at staying still, and I'm like, "Yeah, duh, I know." And it's because I'm in the process of relearning how to stand and walk, and it's not easy, and there are times when I sway a lot more than I used to when I'm standing still, in ways I didn't used to...because my muscles are still weak. But they're getting stronger, and the way I walk has completely changed. I don't have to think about it any more, I'm just walking the right way now--two weeks ago I had to concentrate when I walk, but now I don't, and I can tell it's right because my heels don't drag.

And it's nice. :D

And now it's shower time and then FF:Gaiden time, because OMFG this game is cute! :DDD

The thing that sucks most about BMI is that it is really not as specific as it claims to be. If you drink two extra cups of water, that's an extra pound of "weight" that BMI assumes is fat. (On the other hand, I really wouldn't recommend trying to dehydrate yourself before getting on the board!) Likewise, if you lose fat and gain muscle, BMI still assumes it's fat. There's no way to take a person's fitness level into account with a BMI calculation, and as far as I know the Wii board doesn't have one of those electrical-impedance things that actually calculates percentage of fat vs muscle and bone.

Over the course of weeks/months it's a bit more useful, but don't worry about up shifts that are there for less than a week -- heck, don't worry about shifts for less than a month, due to how (being female) we all have a couple weeks where the BMI is going to go up just because of water...
Yeah, BMI is pretty crap. And I know that on a mental level, but the little kid in me still wants to hurl things at the screen seeing the number go up. Especially since the Wii Fit chides me and wants me to explain myself. :p So I was so teed off at it yesterday. I snarked at it, "I ate food, oh heavens!" and stuck my tongue out, then added a few four letter words about what the Anthropomorphic Balance Board could go do to itself. >XD

Oh, and! I know you're really busy, but--if I send you the first ten pages or so of the next chapter of HC, could you read over it and tell me in anything seems off or needs to be filled out? I've got at least ten pages of straight story since I'm trying to fill in the gaps, but it feels kind of glossed over and not fleshed out enough. I can't tell if it's me being overly picky, or if I need to spend some quality time added stuff. Likewise, I can't tell if some of the Cloud's-head-is-weird stuff is working. Basically, I'm out of practice and my internal editor is second guessing herself again. I'd rather hammer out the beginning now than try to smooth it over when the whole thing is done, because this way it's less work because I'll write the later bits with the beginning in mind. *headdesk* I think this section is going to be at least fifty pages, probably more, and my brain keeps filling in back story/FF7 w/Zack details that have to be hinted at. OMFG.
I can give it a go if you can get it to me by, er, Thursday night my time zone (probably some time Friday yours)? If I can get it read and back to you by Thursday night, you'll see it back a lot sooner than if I can't. ^^;;;

I'm out of town this weekend - Chicago trip for convention planning - and network access is pretty much a no-go since they charge something like $30 a day for wireless access at the Hyatt, and we're only going to be there for maybe an hour (with about 5-6 hours round trip driving time -- these meetings are just not set up for people who live downstate, they assume Chicago is the center of the known universe, but that's an old old rant...)
Sweet! I'll do my best to get it to you later on today (my today, heh, so prolly lunchtime tomorrow around where you are)--it would be ready to go now, but I had a major, "Oh, wait, maybe I should do *this*!!!" idea which will require a massive scene rewrite but may make things much easier for me in the end. I'm getting home earlier than usual tonight and having a deadline (get it done NOW) will mean I write it instead of being a lazy, lazy slacker. *headdesk* I swear, I've got so many balls up in the air with this fic and everything is so interconnected that I have to be extra careful with everything--I halfass one little thing and it will come back to bite me in the ass so hardcore. On the plus side, I full expect some screaming at one plot twist I added that I am cheerfully keeping to myself until I drop this fic (which is why no one sees the later third of this section until the whole thing is done--my notes of things to add in sprinkled throughout would just ruin things). ...*laughs an evil laugh*

And wheee, sounds like a party--five hours of driving for one hour of planning. Yeeeeeeeeeeah.
I got it! I got to read it over but haven't got my editor-hat version written up yet; I'll try to do that tomorrow night before we head Chicagowards. I have a pretty good guess as to which one was the emergency-rewrite section, because there are places where the seams are more visible than usual (sentences starting one way and ending another or words not connecting up to each other). I'm assuming that's not what you want feedback on as much as the scenes you'd had more writing time with?
Yay, it came through! :D

And heh, yeah, considering most of the emergency rewrite was done around 1 am-ish (stupid Hikari no 4 Senshi sucking me in like it did, arrrrgh), I can only imagine. ^^;;;;;; If you have the time, I'd love to know where those horribly pbbth places are, since my eyes do gloss over and I tend to miss things, what with my train of thought derailing all the time. ^^;;

Mainly, though, I need to know if anything feels thin or like I'm glossing over stuff; ditto with if it seems like I'm being heavy-handed with anything--I swear, it's like my subtlety meter is broken or something. I need another set of eyes to look at it and let me know how it seems, since yeah, my internal editor has Gone Fishin' and my fic brain going "PPPPPBTH want write the later stuff RAWR!! *fidget fidget*" so it's not filling in details like it normally does.
